Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

Unlikely characters meet, duel, and fall in love in this phone-book-sized French classic. The story begins in 1815 as the reader meets-in great detail- the Bishop of Digne (or, in some versions, D–). Soon after, the Bishop gives shelter to a convict on parole, Jean Valjean, who is inspired by the bishop to start his life anew. Meanwhile, the obsessive police inspector Javert is closely tailing Valjean. Elsewhere, a destitute young woman, Fantine, is trying to make money to support her daughter, cosette, who is living with a despicable innkeeper and his family.

The novel skips ten years, and the reader meets Marius Pontmercy, a young man in the midst of the French Revolution. His group of comrades, including Enjolras, Combeferre, Grantaire, and others, is preparing to battle with the French National Guard. Cosette-now a young woman herself, and living with Jean Valjean- sights Marius while walking one day, and falls in love. Marius acts likewise, and soon the two have met and are enchanted by each other. Another love situation arises: Eponine Thernardier, daughter of a certain despicable innkeeper, has fallen irrevocably in love with Marius. All too soon, the French students have built a barricade and are fighting the National Guard. Will the students survive their revolt? Who will Marius choose? Read Les Misérables (or see the musical!) to find out.

The book is over 1,000 pages long.  ;D enjoy!

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Summary

An eleven year old named Billy is killed by a package bomb on a London subway station. Now, his sister Laura is setting out to find his killer and everyone is a suspect. The answer will surprise you.

It is a mystery that you can relate to as long as you go to school and have a sibling. This book is probably more liked by girls because the main character is a girly-girl and she even goes to an all girl slumber party with lavish perfumes and jewels.
